Autumn Splendour by Brillig & Borogove (Autumn Fair, Battersea 2024)

As the leaves turned to shades of amber and gold, we returned to the Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair in Battersea Park for the Autumn 2024 edition held at Evolution London.

This time, our stand embraced the rich, warm tones of the season, unfurling designs from our new Botanical I Wallpaper collection paired with a with a curated selection of antiques that evoked the bounty of harvest bounty and warm, cosy interiors.

Here's the main view of our exhibition stand, bursting with seasonal colour:

Some highlights included:

1. An impressive white marble wine cooler of large proportions, probably Italian, late 18th/early 19th century.

2. A matched pair of mid-century Blackforest carved wooden bear benches.

3. A mid 19th-century carved Italian marble sculpture of Venus with the Apple: After Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770 - 1844).  (Autumn Fair, Battersea 2024)

4. A fine pair of large 18th-century George III silver-gilt repoussé dishes, hallmarked London 1782 by the prestigious partnership of Daniel Smith & Robert Sharp. Weighing an impressive 4020 grams combined.

As always, each wall of our exhibition stand was covered with one of our own wallpaper designs to complement the antiques on display. For the 3 main interior walls, we chose designs from our Botanical I Wallpaper collection inspired by autumn's deep russets, ochres, and burnt oranges—creating a warm, enveloping backdrop that perfectly echoed the elegance of period Georgian furniture.

Here are a few examples of our autumnal botanical wallpapers in situ on the stand walls:

The pièce de résistance was our Tutti Frutti wallpaper—a joyful explosion of vibrant fruits in lush colours that brought a playful abundance to our main exterior wall. Paired brilliantly with a series of antique reverse glass paintings and prints telling the timeless story of Helen of Troy and Paris—centred on the fateful Judgement of Paris, where the Trojan prince awards the golden apple to Venus (Aphrodite), sparking jealousy among the goddesses and ultimately leading to the Trojan War. These luminous, golden-toned works added romance, drama, and a touch of mischief against the riot of fruit.

The stand was a celebration of autumn's richness—colourful, layered, and inviting—drawing crowds of designers, collectors, and enthusiasts throughout the week. It was wonderful reconnecting with familiar faces and welcoming new ones!
