Item Description & Information

A fine and imposing Japanese Imari porcelain vase and cover, circa 1850, embodying the opulent fusion of Edo-era artistry and export grandeur. 

Of baluster form crowned by a domed cover surmounted by a gilded finial. The deep black ground in the rich Imari tradition decorated with gilt accents and vibrant polychrome enamels. The meticulous overglaze enameling, layered with iron red, underglaze blue, and profuse gilding, captures the transient beauty of nature, harmonizing rustic earthiness with imperial splendor.

With intricate brocade patterns and classical motifs evoking the sumptuous Kinrande style beloved by European connoisseurs.

A true testament to the Meiji prelude's innovative spirit, when Imari wares captivated global markets through the port of Imari.
