18th-century Louis XVI Walnut Secrétaire by Nicolas Petit

A superb Louis XVI walnut wood marquetry inlaid secrétaire à abattant stamped by the renowned ébéniste Nicolas Petit. Of elegant rectangular form, the piece is crowned with a white-veined grey marble top.
The upper section includes a drawer adorned with a delicate floral spray. The hinged fall-front is centred with a large oval musical trophy and opens to reveal a gilt-tooled black leather writing surface, accompanied by banks of drawers and pigeonholes. Below, a pair of doors with oval panels depicting vases of flowers enclose a shelf. The piece bears the stamp N. PETIT and JME (Jurande des Menuisiers-Ébénistes).
