Giovanni Folo – Simulacro di Diana detta volgarmente la Zingarella (The Little Gypsy Diana) – Engraving after Agostino Tofanelli, c.1792
Item Description & Information
A fine early 19th-century engraving by Giovanni Folo (1764–1836), after a drawing by Agostino Tofanelli.
The print depicts the graceful antique statue known as Simulacro di Diana detta volgarmente la Zingarella ("The Little Gypsy" or "Gypsy Girl" Diana). The figure stands elegantly draped in classical robes, with one arm raised and the other gently holding the flowing drapery, capturing the refined pose and subtle charm of the original Hellenistic/Roman sculpture.
Engraved with exceptional precision and clarity, this plate was published as part of a series reproducing important classical antiquities. The title appears in elegant script at the base: Simulacro di Diana detta volgarmente la Zingarella.
This engraving makes an excellent companion to other neoclassical reproductive prints (such as those after Canova) and is ideal for a library, study, hallway, or classically inspired interior.
