Item Description & Information

An fine late 18th-century etching of Achille (Achilles), the legendary hero of the Trojan War, etched by Gio Brunetti (Giovanni Brunetti da Ravenna) in 1792.

The powerfully modelled nude figure stands in classical contrapposto, wearing a crested helmet and resting one hand on a stack of stones, evoking the idealised masculine beauty and heroic proportions of antiquity. The plate is after a drawing by Bernardino Nocchi (Italian, 1741–1812) and is likely inspired by or based on sculptures from the celebrated antique collection of Marcantonio IV Borghese in Rome.

Engraved with exceptional clarity and neoclassical precision, this print belongs to a series reproducing important classical monuments and statues from Roman collections. It forms an excellent companion to other engravings from the same period and is ideal for a library, study, or classically inspired interior.
