The Camellia flower named after the botanist Joseph Kamel is native to China where it grows wild. The flowers emerge in early spring and are brightly coloured and vivid to behold.
In India the camellia sinensis plant is cultivated commercially and the tender leaves of the plant are harvested to make white, green and black teas. Some of the most sought after tea comes from the hilly slopes of Darjeeling.
