Item Description & Information

A late 19th-century/early 20th-century French Louis XVI style occasional table, crafted in fine mahogany with rich gilt bronze ormolu mounts and an elegant marble top.

The circular top is formed from a single beautiful specimen of Breche d’Alep marble, displaying dramatic veining in warm tones of brown, ochre, and white. It is framed by a gilt-bronze rim and sits above a frieze lavishly decorated with finely chased ormolu mounts, including a central trophy motif of a flower-filled urn within a laurel wreath, flanked by scrolling foliage, anthemion, and ribbon-tied swags. The apron is further enhanced with neoclassical paterae and delicate leaf borders.

The table stands on four elegant fluted columnar legs, each adorned with gilt-bronze capitals and terminating in toupie feet with ormolu sabots. A shaped lower shelf with a pierced brass gallery provides additional surface area, while the connecting stretcher features intricate ormolu latticework and foliate decoration, adding both lightness and refinement.

This exceptionally well-executed piece captures the pure neoclassical spirit of the Louis XVI period with its harmonious proportions, high-quality materials, and exquisite ormolu work. Perfect as an occassional table, side table or elegant display piece in a formal drawing room, hallway, or sophisticated interior.

Measurements: 76 cm (H); 60 cm (D).
