18th-century Gustavian Marble Top Giltwood Console
Item Description & Information
A fine and elegant Gustavian giltwood console table of neoclassical form. The later semicircular white marble top rests upon a richly carved giltwood base adorned with rosettes, leaf borders, and delicate festoons. The table stands on round fluted legs united by an X-shaped stretcher centred with a classical urn — a hallmark of refined Swedish late 18th-century/early 19th-century design.
Of graceful proportions and exceptional presence, the console displays the crisp carving and luminous gilt finish characteristic of the finest Stockholm workshops of the Gustavian period. The cool white marble beautifully contrasts with the warm gilded wood, creating a harmonious play of light and texture
This sophisticated console captures the pure neoclassical spirit of the Gustavian era at its most refined and architectural. With its classical ornament, elegant fluting, and balanced proportions, it brings timeless Swedish elegance and understated grandeur to any interior.
Ideal for placing beneath a mirror, in an entrance hall, drawing room, or between windows, this fine piece serves as both a practical surface and a sculptural statement of refined taste.
