Item Description & Information
An continental walnut and cast iron trestle table with fiadores. In the typical characterful baroque style, part 18th-century with compelling later 19th-century adaptations. Aesthetically pleasing and enduringly functional.
The Rustic Walnut Plank Top with an aged patina, subtle variations in tone, and natural imperfections speak volumes of its centuries of use, imparting a coveted, time-worn appeal. The table's foundation rests on two commanding lyre-shaped (or 'gamba di viola') trestle supports. These are expertly carved with deep, flowing scrolls and volutes, characteristic of the robust and decorative woodworking of the Italian Baroque era. Their sculptural presence defines the table's strong architectural character. Connecting the two trestle bases is a beautifully forged wrought iron stretcher.
This functional yet highly decorative element features an intricate twisted central section and elegantly scrolled ends where it secures to the wooden supports. This "ferro battuto" work is a signature detail of period Italian tables, providing essential stability with artistic flair.
Measurements: 50 cm (H); 85 cm (W); 55.5 cm (D).
