Antique Louis XV Painted Fauteuils by Maître Pierre Remy, 18th-century
Item Description & Information
A superb and elegant pair of Louis XV grey and blue painted fauteuils by the renowned maître menuisier Pierre Remy, maître in 1750. Each chair features a graceful cartouche-shaped padded back, scrolling arms and seat, all upholstered in cream floral cotton. The top rail and seat rail are centred with delicate carved flowerheads and scrolling foliage, beautifully highlighted against the soft grey-blue painted ground.
Both chairs are stamped 'P. REMY' on the underside, confirming the hand of this important mid-18th-century Parisian maker. Active between 1750 and 1780, Pierre Rémy, whose works span the Louis XV through to the Louis XVI style, produced both seat furniture and boiserie panels. His production was much appreciated both then and now for the richness of its form, large proportions and bold sculptural outline. The refined proportions, fluid carving, and delicate painted finish embody the refined elegance and playful rococo spirit of the Louis XV period at its finest.
This elegant pair of fauteuils brings refined French 18th-century sophistication, graceful lines, and soft colour to any interior. Perfect for a drawing room, salon, bedroom, or formal sitting area, they offer both comfort and exceptional decorative presence.
Ideal for the collector or connoisseur seeking authentic Louis XV seating by a recorded maker with strong provenance.
