Item Description & Information

A pair of 19th century, Gien (France) pottery bottles and stoppers. Each with mask handles and colourfully decorated with scrolls, birds and terminal figures. For a similar example see V&A Museum, Kensington, London.

Measurements: H (30 cm) approx. 

The Gien Pottery was established in about 1822 by Merlin Hall (founder of the factory of Creil & Montereau) and specialised in traditional French earthenwares with scenes and motifs taken from French historical sources, heraldic emblems and contemporary politics.
