The Bael Tree or Aegle Marmelos also known as Golden Apple or Bengal Quince is native to the Indian sub-continent where it is of both cultural and spiritual importance.
The tree is considered sacred in Hindu religion. The leaves are trifoliate with a tapering or pointed tip and a rounded base. In Hindu mythology, the leaf symbolises the holy trinity (Bramha, Vishnu and Shiv). It also symbolises Shiva's third eye and sometimes also the trident of Lord Shiva. The leaves are used in the prayer and worship of Lord Shiva and the tree is found in Lord Shiva’s temples. It is believed that Bael trees are a form of Goddess Sati/Parvati (wife of Lord Shiva).
