




Martaban Style Chinese Stoneware Dragon Jar

A large and heavy 'Martaban'-style Chinese stoneware storage jar or urn. Possibly dating from the late 19th-century or early 20th-century. A fine example of traditional Chinese craftsmanship. The urn with a dark brown treacle glaze characteristic of Martaban wares. Of classic ovoid or pear-shaped silhouette, characterized by broad, rounded shoulders with ear-shaped loop handles.
The body richly decorated with raised, applied, and incised dragons depicted in various dynamic poses, seemingly chasing what appears to be a flaming pearl or auspicious orb.
The dragons are rendered with intricate scales, flowing manes, and powerful claws, showing a clear sense of movement. The lower half of the urn, below the main decorative band, is relatively plain, showcasing the texture and colour of the stoneware.
Chips & Damages to the handles.
