Antique Walnut Wood Chair
Item Description & Information
A 19th-century tapestry covered walnut prie-dieu chair.
The prie-dieu style became popular in the 19th century owing to the Gothic Revival movement by architects such as Augustus Pugin and to a pietistic passion for family prayers. Prie-Dieu (or devotional) chairs were introduced which followed the general shape of the purely religious version but extended the knee rest to form a low seat.
Measurements: H: 102 cm x W: 44 cm x L: 54 cm
